Cleveland officials are advancing new short-term rental regulations that would introduce registration, licensing, and a 3% bed tax, amid growing pressure from residents over safety and nuisance issues.
Proposed amendments would cap the number of rentals per block and require operators to provide a local point of contact for faster response to complaints. The council is targeting approval of the measure before the summer tourism season, with enforcement still under review.

Falmouth has approved a new short-term rental bylaw establishing a formal registration and licensing system as officials respond to growing concerns about neighborhood impacts and housing availability.

The rules require operators to obtain a license, limit occupancy, provide parking and noise-control plans, and designate a local contact available 24/7, while also capping ownership and restricting certain corporate entities. The measure takes effect January 1, 2027, and includes enforcement provisions with fines for violations.
The Town of Montgomery is advancing its proposed short-term rental regulations, with leaders revising key provisions ahead of adoption.

Board members agreed to reduce the minimum lot size requirement from two acres to one acre and allow property owners to seek variances for smaller parcels. A public hearing set for April 15 will give residents a chance to weigh in before final approval.
Short-term rental regulations in Westminster are producing significant revenue, with the city collecting $1.4 million in accommodation taxes in 2025 following the introduction of a licensing program.
The policy requires operators to obtain both a business license and STR permit, while limiting ownership and establishing enforcement procedures for violations. City officials say the program has improved oversight and compliance, contributing to the increase in tax collections. Complaints have been minimal so far, with most tied to noise, parking, and registration issues.

Concerns over short-term rental enforcement and pricing have emerged in the Coachella Valley as festival attendees report cancellations shortly before arrival.
Local officials pushed back on claims that regulations caused the cancellations, noting that STRs are allowed with valid permits even during major events. The reports have raised questions about compliance and whether existing rules adequately prevent practices like relisting at higher prices.
A revised short-term rental bylaw is moving toward a vote at town meeting, with new amendments introducing limits on ownership and occupancy.
The proposal would restrict owners to three units, require annual registration, and tie occupancy limits to septic system capacity, while allowing certain existing properties to be grandfathered in.
Residents in Forest Park are urging officials to introduce short-term rental regulations after raising concerns about noise, safety, and neighborhood disruptions tied to a property on Lathrop Avenue.
With no current STR-specific rules in the village code, officials are considering potential measures such as limiting rental duration and restricting proximity to schools. The process could move forward with draft amendments, a planning commission review, and a public hearing before any formal vote.
Highland County supervisors have unanimously approved a new ordinance requiring short-term rental operators to register with the commissioner of revenue within 30 days of listing their property.

The registry is intended to support the assessment and collection of transient occupancy taxes from STR activity. Officials say the measure establishes a formal system to track rentals and improve tax compliance.
Machiasport officials are drafting a short-term rental ordinance that would require property registration as the town begins to address the sector’s impact on local housing.
The proposal is still in early stages, with officials considering light-touch measures such as posted house rules and compliance with state standards. A registration program is expected to be the foundation of the town’s approach moving forward.
