Roeland Park has become the first Johnson County city to temporarily loosen short-term rental rules ahead of World Cup 2026.
The City Council unanimously approved suspending neighbor notification requirements for STRs operating between May 25 and July 31, while keeping licensing and safety standards in place. The city will issue a temporary World Cup–specific STR license and approved permanent changes banning party use and requiring full parking compliance.

Several short-term rental operators in Elmhurst have shut down since the city adopted new licensing and safety requirements last spring, according to city officials.
Police and code enforcement have issued citations tied to overcrowding, parking violations, and unlicensed listings, prompting inspections ahead of the New Year’s Eve licensing deadline. Officials report 14 license applications submitted, along with enforcement actions against noncompliant properties.
Yucca Valley staff presented a new short-term rental GIS map that allows residents to search properties by address or parcel number and view permit status and 24-hour contact information.
Officials say the number of STR permits has largely stabilized after pandemic-era growth, though seasonal complaints continue. Parking and trash issues dominate slower months, while summer brings increased party-related complaints from neighbors.
Sedgwick County commissioners approved a new zoning code that allows short-term rentals in unincorporated areas of the county.
The rules require an administrative permit renewed every five years, limit occupancy to 20 adults, and require property owners to live within 30 miles of their rental. The regulations take effect at the end of next week.

The Norton Shores City Council unanimously voted to deny a proposed ordinance that would have established regulations for short-term rentals, which are currently unregulated in the city.
The draft ordinance included licensing requirements, fees, separation distances, and a cap of 80 rentals citywide, but council members opted to send it back for revisions. City officials said a revised ordinance reflecting those concerns will be brought back for a new introduction.
Arvada City Council is considering revisions to its short-term rental rules after a 2025 house party shooting and findings that hundreds of STRs were operating without licenses.
Arvada Short Term Rentals
While council broadly supports banning LLC-held STR licenses, members are split on whether to restrict license holders to one property or allow multiple units. Proposed ordinances are expected to advance through hearings in early February.
Lexington town officials are choosing not to regulate short-term rentals despite growing regional scrutiny of Airbnbs and Vrbo listings.
Councilmembers said the town has not received complaints or code enforcement cases tied to STRs, making immediate regulation unnecessary. Staff noted that existing ordinances appear to restrict STRs to commercial zones, but enforcement is challenging. The council agreed to revisit the issue only if problems emerge.
Clackamas County is extending its short-term rental pilot program through June 30 while officials gather public input on whether formal regulations are needed.
The county has launched a public survey and scheduled two town halls to collect feedback on STR rules, fees, and neighborhood impacts. A virtual meeting is set for Feb. 18, with an in-person session planned for April 1 focused on Mt. Hood-area residents. Survey responses are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 11.

The proposed tax would apply only to second homes that sit vacant and to whole-home short-term rentals, not to primary residences, renters or long-term rentals, according to Sean Elo-Rivera's office. The measure would impact fewer than 1% of San Diegans. https://t.co/wAhEllKZyr
