Daily Regulatory Notes 02/19/2026
Every day, we bring you a detailed overview of recent news and updates about primary decisions, community feedback, or legislative changes relevant to the short-term rental industry. 📰

Pullman, WA

Pullman Planning Commission will take additional public comment as it considers easing the city’s recently adopted short-term rental regulations, including a proposal to exempt owner-occupied rentals with two bedrooms or fewer from permit, fee, and inspection requirements.

The review follows pushback from operators who said the rules enacted last summer were too burdensome, prompting city council to request revised recommendations by March. The current STR regulations remain in effect during the review process, with discussion scheduled at a public meeting at city hall.

Council members were divided over whether the changes go far enough to control STR growth, with some emphasizing the need for stronger limits and others highlighting investment and revenue considerations. The ordinance passed on a 4-2 vote, marking a continued evolution of the city’s regulatory approach to short-term rentals.

Decatur, AL

Decatur officials have finalized an agreement with Deckard Technologies to manage enforcement of the city’s newly adopted short-term rental regulations, which limit most residential STRs to 150 units and introduce new licensing, inspection, and compliance requirements.

The AI-supported system will monitor listings, verify permits and safety certifications, notify neighbors, and help enforce penalties for unapproved rentals as the ordinance takes effect April 1.

Laketown Township, MI

Laketown Township Planning Commission is evaluating new short-term rental restrictions that would reduce maximum occupancy from 16 to 10 guests and limit rentals in residential zones to accessory dwelling units only, effectively prohibiting non-owner-occupied freestanding STRs outside designated mixed-use areas along Blue Star Highway.

The proposal follows months of public feedback and analysis by a joint township committee and comes as a moratorium on new freestanding STR applications remains in effect through June 30 while officials review policy options. Commissioners are scheduled to continue discussions March 4, with any final recommendations advancing to the township board for potential adoption.
