April Towery at Candys Dirt has put together an overview of Dallas’s latest Quality of Life, Arts, & Culture Committee on Monday morning. Code Compliance Services staff presented an update on short-term rentals.
West pointed out that because STR properties are increasing and hotel tax revenues are decreasing, less money is going toward tourism and arts. Operators can’t be forced to register while the litigation is pending.
Two slides stood out:
Service Requests Service requests are primarily related to noise, parking, and trash issues. 49% of requests are in Council Districts 1, 2, or 14.
HOT Occupancy Tax Collections on Short-Term Rentals
Waterford Township is beginning to slowly approve conditional use permits on a case-by-case basis with Planning Commission approval.
The Sun Coast News put together interviews from several members of the community in Hernando County, FL about how the hospitality and short-term rental industries impact the community.
Prairie Village City Council has “asked city staff to draw up rules limiting rentals to 30 days or longer.” Early indications are this might lead to a ban on short-term rentals in the city. Discussions around STRs have been ongoing with reporting earlier this year that the city was “considering rule that would effectively ban AirBnbs in city” (May 7, 2024). The 2023 city elections were also heavily influenced by plans to limit short-term rentals. (Nov 6, 2023)
