Nantucket, MA
ACK Now, a political action group, has appealed the Zoning Board of Appeal's decision that a property operating on West Dover Street was permissible. This individual decision will have limited immediate impacts on the rental market across Nantucket, but it is a new type of action from groups opposing short-term rentals. It also marks a new twist in the ongoing saga of proposed regulatory changes in Nantucket.

Denton, TX
During a September 24th meeting Denton, TX city council discussed a draft short-term rental ordinance before deciding to delay a vote on it until late October.

A council work session will be held on October 15th before a public hearing is held a week later on October 22.

Azle, TX
Azle, TX, a community northwest of Fort Worth, is drafting an ordinance to regulate short-term rentals. The city council’s first discussion on the topic was during a regular meeting on April 16. A legal expert provided testimony and answered questions during a June 4th meeting, after which city staff was directed to begin drafting an ordinance. That 16-page draft ordinance was presented during the council’s September 17th meeting.

As the draft document is currently written, it would make it unlawful to rent or lease a short-term rental for a period of more than 29 days or less than 24 hours, though the council had clarifying questions on the time period which may impact future drafts. The draft ordinance would establish a limit of no more than two people per bedroom with a maximum number of occupants not to exceed 12. - Azle continues work on short-term rental ordinance - Tri County Reporter

Newport, RI
Councilor Mark Aramli sat for an interview with What's Up Newport to discuss the proposal he has put before the full council to ban new short-term rentals in Newport. The measure will be considered at the Council's Wednesday September 25, 2024 meeting.

“Housing, housing, housing. The renters are getting pushed out of the city. First time home buyers. Good luck,” Aramli said during an interview with What’sUpNewp on Wednesday morning.

Aramli, who introduced the proposal, argues that short-term rentals and out-of-state second homeowners have consumed much of Newport’s middle-class workforce housing in recent years.

“We have more tourist traffic than we have ever had. Newport’s been discovered,” Aramli stated. “Our tourist economy is healthy and pursuing tourism at all costs, I think we finally realize there is a cost, and that cost is our middle class and our workforce.”
