Yardley Council Takes Steps Toward Regulating Short-Term Rentals

In a move that could shape the future of short-term rentals (STRs) in Yardley, the Borough Council has voted to advertise a new ordinance regulating these types of accommodations.
Focused on commercial zones, the ordinance is designed to offer residents an opportunity to earn income through short-term rentals while preventing an overabundance of these properties from impacting the community.

Over the last year and a half, council members have worked hard to address community concerns, particularly regarding the rise of Airbnbs. The final draft of the ordinance will be available for public review before the council votes on it on May 25.
Key provisions of the proposed ordinance include limiting the number of STRs to 10 per year, requiring licenses for all properties offering short-term rentals, and placing a cap of two guests per bedroom. Properties will also be subject to inspections, and the owners will need to provide proof of insurance and tax payments.
While the ordinance has garnered mixed reactions with some residents worrying about the negative impact of Airbnbs on local neighborhoods, others appreciate the council’s efforts to keep short-term rentals contained to commercial zones. The council has also made provisions for existing rentals, ensuring they are not impacted by the new rules and allowing them to continue operation.

With the final vote approaching, Yardley residents have one last chance to review the proposed ordinance and voice their opinions.
Minutes of meetings are posted after council approves them at the next meeting - April 15.
