On September 18, 2026, the Ayuntamiento de Haría announced that it has approved a Plan for the Verification and Control of Vacation Homes (PCC-M). Under the plan, every registered short-term rental in this northern Lanzarote municipality will have both its paperwork and the property itself reviewed over the next four years.
It covers 465 viviendas vacacionales with 1,834 beds in total so hosts in Haría should expect the town hall to ask for proof that their property and paperwork meet current rules.

What the plan checks
The starting point is a municipal inventory built from the list of registered vacation homes that the regional tourism department of the Gobierno de Canarias provided. In the first phase, staff will review each owner's declaración responsable together with any communications, licenses and other permits on file, and they will check that record against complaints and risk indicators. The second phase checks each home's technical, functional, environmental, urban planning and safety conditions in practice with on-site inspections where the file review justifies them.

Who gets inspected first
The council will schedule reviews by how long each home has been listed in the Registro General Turístico so the oldest registrations come up first. Homes that show signs of serious risk to people or property can move ahead of that order and the council has named suspected substandard housing and homes housing more guests than their permitted occupancy as priorities. Mayor Alfredo Villalba said the plan gives the town hall objective tools and criteria to understand the real situation of each home and to act where rules are broken.

The regional law behind it
The plan puts into practice Ley 6/2025 de Ordenación Sostenible del Uso Turístico de Viviendas, the Canary Islands' vacation rental law that came into force on December 13, 2025. It requires councils across the islands to check the vacation homes already operating in their area. Homes registered before that date fall under a five-year transitional regime, and the Canary Islands government has said their owners can keep operating as long as they complete the classified activity procedures their municipality requires.
What non-compliance means
The mayor's office will coordinate the plan while the Oficina Técnica Municipal carries out the inspections, provides technical support and handles any sanction files. Owners whose homes fall short will be ordered to correct, adapt or regularize the property since the plan itself sets no new fines. At the end of the four-year period, Haría must report its results to the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the regional government.
