Alexandria, VA
Alexandria shows progress on proposed short-term rental regulations after seeking public feedback.
The following requirements includes: a mandate for operators to live within 15 miles, provide a local certificate of insurance, submit a parking plan, a 24-hour maximum occupancy for large gatherings, a cap of two guests per bedroom plus two additional occupants, and stipulations on trash collection.
City Staff plans to make further changes based on public input before presenting the refined proposal to the City Council in February.
Scottsdale, AZ
“Homes, Not Hotels”
“Short Term Rentals Ruin Neighborhoods.”
The following are signs that stand in neighborhoods near Old Town Scottsdale. This is an example of residents’ outcry in Scottsdale Arizona, where homeowners are voicing concerns over the impact of short-term rentals (STRs) on their neighborhoods, citing issues with noise, privacy, and crime. In areas like Peaceful Valley, locals report disturbances from STRs, with large parties and errant golf balls disrupting the community’s peace.
While so, 2016 Arizona state legislation, Senate Bill 1350, prevents cities from prohibiting STRs.
Scottsdale’s Assistant City Manager Brent Stockwell stated that while the city can’t ban STRs, it is collaborating with other Arizona municipalities to seek more local regulatory power over STRs.
🔔 Rhode Island
Rhode Island’s special legislative commission studying the short-term rental industry’s economical and social impact met on October 24, last week, to discuss short-term rental insurance. Agenda includes a presentation on short-term rental insurance and who needs it.
