LITTLE FALLS, MN
Under newly adopted Ordinance 68, guests booking short stays in Little Falls will pay a 3% lodging tax following the city council's approval on August 17, 2026. The tax reaches hotels, motels, rooming houses, resorts, short-term rentals and vacation home rentals throughout the city.

Only accommodations rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days are subject to the charge while longer continuous rentals stay exempt. Collections will fund the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism and its efforts to promote the city as a destination.
MAGNOLIA, AR
The city council in Magnolia took up the first reading of a proposed short-term rental ordinance at its meeting on Monday, August 24, 2026. The measure would regulate the rental of houses on a short-term basis within city limits and reflects revisions that council members proposed during their July session.

Since Arkansas cities typically require multiple readings before an ordinance becomes law, the first reading marks an early but significant step. The said meeting also covered a legislative report from State Senator Steve Crowell along with several infrastructure and property matters.
TAMPA, FL
Momentum is building for Tampa to join a countywide crackdown on unruly vacation rentals. City officials who likened the current market to the "wild, wild west" are now looking to piggyback on Hillsborough County's proposed short-term rental registry rather than build a separate program since the ordinance commissioners advanced unanimously on August 6, 2026 was written so cities can opt in.

The registry itself is built around accountability and requires owners to designate a local contact who can reach the property within an hour at any time of day and to brief guests on noise, trash, and parking rules. Approval would follow a September 2, 2026 public hearing and bring the program into effect on January 1, 2027.
CONYERS, GA
City leaders in Conyers signaled support for legalizing short-term rentals during an August 19 work session where the council reached consensus to draft an ordinance permitting platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo in designated zoning districts. Councilman Gerald Hinesley stood as the lone voice of opposition while his colleagues backed regulated rentals.

The decision builds on a community listening session held in May as part of the city's engagement process though not everyone is on board since four residents spoke against the proposal during public comment. City staff will now prepare a draft ordinance with neighborhood protections for future council consideration.
DULUTH, MN
With its moratorium on new short-term rental licenses set to expire in October 2026, Duluth's City Council took up the issue at its Monday meeting on evening of August 24. Councilors must decide whether to adopt new regulations or revert to the rules that existed before the freeze.

A recently completed city study recommends a licensing process managed by the Life Safety Division along with refocusing where rentals are allowed and strengthening enforcement against illegal operations. The proposals aim to prevent the loss of single-family homes to vacation rental conversions.
NASHVILLE, IN
Tourist rentals emerged as a top concern in Nashville's sweeping zoning rewrite as consultant Cynthia Bowen updated the Redevelopment Commission this month of August. Focus group participants said too many homes have shifted from long-term residences to short-term rentals and squeezed housing for locals in the Brown County tourist town.
Nashville Unified Development Ordinance
Nashville’s official hub for its zoning rewrite with project updates, public input opportunities and resources on the Unified Development Ordinance.
Options under study include keeping special exceptions for rentals in residential areas along with treating some as commercial use and creating a rental registry to track innkeepers' taxes. A draft Unified Development Ordinance arrives in spring 2027 with adoption expected later that year.
PHILIPSTOWN, NY

A public hearing on October 1 will give Philipstown residents their say on a proposed short-term rental law that would bring licensing and inspections to the Hudson Valley town. The measure sets a $90 application fee alongside a $100 Building Department inspection fee and requires hosts to carry at least $500,000 in liability insurance.
Owners who live in town could rent up to three properties while non-residents would be capped at two permits. Occupancy is limited to two guests per bedroom and fines climb from $1,000 to $5,000 with a four-year rental ban for repeat violations.
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL
Frustration is boiling over in a quiet Pinellas County neighborhood after deputies made multiple arrests at a short-term rental on 74th Avenue North before an advertised party could even begin. The Thursday arrests in Seminole involved guests who were wanted on outstanding warrants out of Chicago.

Longtime residents say the episode may be the final straw after months of drug use and noise from problem rentals that host large gatherings almost every weekend. Neighbor Hannah Gleaton blames corporations that buy up larger homes and convert them into rentals instead of leaving them for families, and she wants stronger consequences for repeat violations while the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation.
ST. LOUIS, MO
More than 80 shell casings littered a Central West End parking lot after gunfire erupted outside a St. Louis short-term rental at midnight on August 21, 2026. An Illinois family in town for their daughter's neurosurgery sheltered inside their first-floor unit as partygoers from the upstairs Airbnb tried to kick in their door and bullets destroyed their vehicles.
St. Louis' Short-Term Rental Tax Information
Airbnb says the shooting was not directly connected to a reservation but the case lands as St. Louis enforces a new 3% stay tax and license mandate amid active litigation over its rental rules.
