El Paso, TX
El Paso City Council has approved a plan to begin collecting Hotel Occupancy Taxes from short-term rentals, with implementation expected within the next 90 to 180 days.
City officials estimate the measure will generate roughly $3.5 million annually for tourism-related investments, bringing El Paso in line with other major Texas cities that already tax STR accommodations. Officials said the policy creates greater consistency across the lodging sector while ensuring visitor-generated revenue can be reinvested into tourism, events, cultural attractions, and related infrastructure.
The City of El Paso announced it will be collecting Hotel Occupancy Taxes on short-term rental properties after City Council approved the new action on Tuesday, June 9.

San Diego, CA
San Diego has shut down six illegal short-term rentals following a settlement with operators accused of running unlicensed properties and violating building regulations.

Under the agreement, the operators must remove all listings from platforms such as Airbnb, stop operating STRs, and are barred from applying for new licenses until 2028.

Dallas, TX

Dallas is preparing for increased short-term rental demand as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, with local hosts weighing whether to rent out their homes despite uncertainty about booking levels.

While Dallas’ effort to restrict short-term rentals in residential neighborhoods remains unresolved in court, hosts are advised to comply with any applicable licensing, permit, and occupancy requirements before participating. Industry analysts report that booking activity is still developing and warn against overly aggressive pricing assumptions.
Humboldt County, CA
Humboldt County’s Planning Commission unanimously denied a special permit for a short-term rental near Arcata after a neighboring resident raised concerns about ongoing noise, late-night hot tub use, and impacts on quality of life.
Although county staff recommended approval, commissioners sided with residents, arguing that the operator had not done enough to address neighborhood concerns and that local residents’ interests should take priority. The owner may appeal the decision, reapply with changes to reduce impacts, or face code enforcement if the rental continues operating without a permit.
Keene, NH
The Keene City Council is moving forward with zoning amendments tied to a new state law that limits how municipalities define households, prompting updates to the city’s short-term rental regulations.
Officials are proposing to formally allow and define short-term rentals within the land development code while introducing basic operating requirements for residential neighborhoods. A public workshop on the proposed short-term rental rules will be held on July 13, giving residents and stakeholders an opportunity to provide feedback before the council considers adoption.
