REYNOLDSBURG, OH
A unanimous City Council vote on July 13 introduced short-term rental regulations in Reynoldsburg which targets Airbnb and Vrbo properties after resident complaints about disruptive parties. Owners must now secure a $225 annual city permit and each rental has to be the owner's primary residence.

New rules require a three-night minimum stay, cap occupancy at two guests per bedroom, and limit parking to four vehicles. City officials can revoke permits for noise violations, delinquent taxes, or guests trespassing on nearby properties within 500 feet.

FAIR HAVEN, NY
A new short-term rental law took effect in Fair Haven last July 14 that will reshape how owners in the Cayuga County village can operate. Each property owner is now limited to three permits which replaces an earlier proposed rental cap and lottery selection process.
Owners must now work within the tighter permit structure though business leaders warn the limits could shrink lodging in a summer-driven economy. Six applications have been filed with an advisory committee monitoring effects on the community.

STREATOR, IL
Short-term rental regulation reached the Streator City Council agenda on July 15 when members considered a proposal to create rules governing Airbnb-style properties. The measure marks the city's first formal step toward a framework for stays under a month.

Council members took up the item during a 7 p.m. session at Streator City Hall on South Bloomington Street. Specific licensing terms, caps, and enforcement provisions have not yet been detailed publicly.

LA MESA, CA
On July 14, the La Mesa City Council directed staff to spend six months studying short-term rentals and drafting a regulatory policy. Vice Mayor Lauren Cazares introduced the item, noting the city currently requires no permits, registration, or operational standards for its roughly 637 active STRs.
Potential measures under review include a permitting system, quiet hours, and vehicle and occupancy limits. Neighboring San Diego, Santee, Lemon Grove, and El Cajon already regulate rentals while staff will return with proposed standards by early 2027.

CHARLESTON, SC
Planning officials in Charleston deferred proposed changes to the city's short-term rental ordinance on July 15 which delayed the first major overhaul since 2018. The revision would let the Fire Marshal set occupancy by bedroom size while capping every rental at eight guests.

Supporters at City Hall say the update aims for clarity rather than a crackdown and replaces an unenforceable four-unrelated-adults rule. The Planning Commission must recommend approval or disapproval before the proposal reaches City Council for a first reading.
LONG BEACH, MS
A short-term rental committee delivered policy recommendations to Long Beach's Mayor and Board of Aldermen during a work session last July 14. The panel examined how to address rentals operating illegally whether to require yearly safety inspections and whether to cap the number of STRs permitted citywide.
Mayor Tim Pierce said a cap is not an immediate priority as the city sees no pressing problem to solve. Officials will weigh the recommendations and limits remain possible as regulation of the industry evolves.
BURKE, VT
Officials in Burke revisited the town's short-term rental rules during a July 8 Development Review Board meeting as prompted by a resident's concerns over rental density and noise. The 2024 ordinance requires owners to register properties and secure board approval before operating.

Roughly 30 units have registered so far, about one-third of the town's estimated total. Zoning Administrator Mike Harris confirmed the town will begin contacting unregistered operators listed on platforms directly next year which means shifting from voluntary compliance toward active enforcement.

Pressure is mounting in Northwest Bradenton where residents want tougher code enforcement on high-occupancy vacation rentals. The West Manatee Fire District counts more than 5,300 short-term rentals and reports that single-family structure fires tied to these properties fell from 74% three years ago to 17% in 2025 after proactive inspections.

Fire Marshal Rodney Kwiatkowski said hundreds of owner-operators have not responded to inspection requests. Manatee County is weighing a new ordinance to address noise, occupancy and safety complaints.
CINCINNATI, OH

Cincinnati's short-term rental ordinance faces fresh scrutiny after a July 15 shooting at a Corryville property near the University of Cincinnati injured one man. Police responded to Vine Street around 12:30 a.m. after ShotSpotter detected roughly 50 rounds fired during a party of about 75 people.
